Why are the sprites for White uglier than the ones for Platinum?
Not even anti aliasing can save this.
>>26698398
I don't see what's wrong with it.

Platinum off Google
Shit's so much smoother. Snivy in my shot looks like he's gen 2 with how pixelated he is.
>>26698492
Because they zoom in and move outside of a pixel grid
It's a 3D rendering with 2D sprites in it, whereas Gen 4 was simply 2D and all aligned to the pixel grid
>>26698492
I'm sure it couldn't be the fact that the gen 5 ones were moving sprites.
They reduced the sprite quality and simplified the type of shading so it's easier to animate them. I'm a pixel artist myself so I can tell. If you want better quality and depth, animations are really hard to do.
Because V's are animated and Platinum's just bob up and down.
>>26698529
>>26698533
Animating was a mistake
>>26698398
>shitty inbetweens
>only animated every two frames
There are 151 frames for Stoutland, half of them are doubles.
>>26698492
What's wrong with gen 2 sprites?
>>26698533
>infernape's tail
>that black line moving in and out of existence
Anti aliasing would have fixed that.
>>26698552
>What's wrong with gen 2 sprites?
Nothing at all, for a 1999 game.
>>26698535
it looks great though, once gen 5 came out I couldn't go back to previous games because the visuals in battles were too static
>>26698398
>>26698552
>antialiasing sprites
Absolutely disgusting.
>>26698492
Comparing a small 1st stage to a 3rd isn't exactly a fair comparison. Have this instead
The zooming of the camera and movement of the sprites changed how they design the back sprites. In the old games, they only had to render a portion of the character, while with the dynamic movement and camera, they needed to show off the whole design.
>>26698573
>it's better because it's new
Pokemon sprites remained unchanged until XY.
>>26698575
This holy shit.
>>26698575
>>26698624
Pokemon sprites did it all the time, though.
>>26698650
Example?
>>26698398
Because the DS' horrible resolution and the Cameras constant ADHD don't help out the photoshop puppet warp animations.
Gen IV's intro animations suffered the same problem with stretching and warping but since it was ONLY for the intro it's barely an issue.
>>26698398
>It's another "gen 5 was shit thread #4046890756" episode.
>>26698669
It's very subtle. This is from gen 4.
Gen 5 sprites are also like this, just poorly "animated."
>>26698398
Some Pokemon look very expensive in these games, but a lot of them were ruined in the idle form
Is this similar to how the XY reveal didn't have pixelation but now when we see the pixelation in the SUMO reveal?
Is it because the chibi sized characters in XY didn't create as much of a problem as the non-chibi trainers in SUMO?
>>26698398
Uh, that's white 2
Rotating spritework is a sin. The static sprites looked better just by virtue of being static artwork. But since every casual has a shallow understanding of improvement we had to go down this road and we have ugly 3D models now instead of nice well-made sprites.
>>26698552
Are you sure you're not just misunderstanding how it works?
>>26699846
>ugly 3D
Loving every laugh.
>>26698669
>>26698767
What's wrong with AA?
I didn't mind the gen 5 sprites when they were zoomed out but when the camera came close they were so ugly and pixelated it ruined gen 5 for me. imo 6 > 4 > 5
>>26699846
Except when it comes to environments and human models, there's only so much you can do with 2D and having only that top down perspective makes everything look like a bland cluster of boxes after seeing places like Cyllage and Anistar city.
>>26699923
It's smeared up garbage.
>>26698767
That's not anti aliasing, it's good spritework...
>>26700917
doesn't that depend on how you use it though? for instance if you multiply every pixel exactly once (you know what I mean) then you get a sharper image of the same sprite
This is what happens when you let children play games from before 2013
>>26698398
>Complaining about sprites
>Your Emulator screen isn't even at an equal aspect ratio of 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x
It'll look like that no matter what you're playing, dipshit.
>>26699846
The animated sprites in Platinum, HG and SS were all rotated too, moron.
>>26698767
You don't know what Anti Aliasing is, congratulations.
Take a look at http://sprites.pokecheck.org/ and then proceed to kill yourself. Compare the Unova Pokemon sprites to the other sprites, plenty of which are edited HGSS and Platinum sprites. There's no difference.
