The beginning sounds like Gen 1/4, and I'm hearing some RSE timpani action in there. The way it's arranged reminds me of BW2's wild battle theme, especially the special one.

I like it better than XY's.

Really reminds me of gen 5 so that gives a bit of hope for the ost.

Well it tries to be different from the habitual wild battle music, and I think it succeeded pretty well.
It sounds really catchy and is fresh, but I can understand how some people doesn't like it, it's really fragmented and we're not use to that sort of music in Pokemon game. (Same reason why everybody seems to hate the Gen VI Gym leader theme)

It's not the fact most aren't used to the gen 6 gym leader theme/it being different. It literally doesn't fit a intense gym battle at all. opinions not facts.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it yet, but it's different so I'll give it a shot.

The battle music is one of those things where I honestly think it's worsened by the generation. Typically I like things as they evolve, but nothings been quite the same to me as the Gen 1 and 2 battle themes.
Not every new song is horrible or anything, but there's a tendency towards this sort of "soulless" feel.

This newer song isn't soulless, thats for sure. It's a bit odd. Not your typical pokemon type battle music. But it's trying something, so I can give it that.
