That, but compared to about all the rest they were super original and well done that's why they became he most popular fakes so far.
Every other strongman popplio was some handlebar mustache dork or popplio turned into some majestic seal that's pretty to look at but you'd be bored of it after a month and every Owl was just a bigger Ghibli spirit. Even people who disliked them wanted to talk about em.
They actually also inspired a deal of future starter fakes. I've seen like 4 hooded Owts with dark faces and ringed eyes, about 6 muscle clowns and 2 panthers that look exactly like Juarfare since they came out.

Ok, now explain how Owltair is in any way better than Robin Hood owl? It's a similar concept but executed a million times better. It's way of attacking isn't just "throwing feathers" like it's preevo does, but it has evolved to use its whole wing as a bow with it's own feathers as arrows. 1. That face is more like a sparrow than a barn owl by a huge margin.
2. you can't call the other a mutant and ignore this one's weird plump feather fingers and if you try to use another pokemon defense, I can easily point to Blaziken an ACTUAL STARTER.
3. Past it's Bow and arrow archer set up it has nothing else going for it seeing as it came over a week after Huntshoot which was the first hooded dark faced Rowel evo to date So if they're both fake you can't take inspiration from another artist work and use that as a point to why yours is better if you're takng the guy's ideas to for your points.

I don't mind Fire/Fighting, Blaziken, Infernape, and Emobar are great sweepers with the right moves and strategies. But we got too many Fire/Fighting types already, maybe due to Delphox shortcoming (it's crappy movepool) is that Gamefreak got scared and went back to safe mode.
When were they deconfirmed? We still don't know what their real evos are.
