Thing I hated about Platinum is that you had to view every pokemon in the region to fully unlock the game. That was incredibly stupid.
Glad I am not the only one who calls that the Golden Age.
Platinum -> B2/W2, was EASILY the highest quality games with the most content in the series.
Especially HG/SS and B2/W2.
Masuda ran the series into the ground, in terms of quality anyways. Sales are as good as ever, so I guess he didn't permafuck the franchise at least. My only hope is that now he is leaving the franchise, the games can start getting better.

I don't recall skipping any trainers. Maybe I just missed some. I remember there was a hidden area that you couldn't get to at first because you needed surf. It was a factory with stuff on the ground that sent you around and there were trainers in there. If there are more hidden areas like that in the game then that could explain it. Regardless it's stupid to make someone go around searching for every trainer in the game just so they can access everything in the Battle Frontier island. You've already beaten the Elite Four and the champion, why do you have to go back and beat little timmy just to access the island.

Throws you into a Region clashing natural and urban environments. Emphasizing the story in a way not done before, a very welcome change of pace. The most new Pokémon to date, and pushes you to try them, guaranteed to land you some bros.

Direct sequels, that offer a revised Regional Dex, now letting you re-explore the Region in a less-linear fashion, using Pokémon you love from all 5 Gens now that you have had experience with Gen 5. Has the Pokémon World Tournament, allowing you to rematch every Gym Leader and Champion in the franchise.
Across these four games, you essentially have the definitive Pokémon experience. The only thing we are missing, is agoodtropical Region. Alola, please don't fail us.

Gen II was shit. Johto is the 2nd worst region after Kalos, and Gen II Kanto was empty as hell.
Platinum made me enjoy the series again after RSE and FRLG. HG/SS are my favorite games in the franchise and did justice to the originals. I'm not going to lie, BW were pretty awful. Especially the starters which, I think, are the worst to date. BW2 was better. I actually put XY on the level of BW. It added some stuff I liked and added some stuff I didn't like just like BW. I disliked RS when they came out and didn't think the Battle Frontier was enough to save Emerald. Need less to say, I don't like ORAS either. I'm actually just playing through AS right now and It's probably the worst Pokemon game I've played. Maybe it'll get better, but it just made the, already bad, RS games worse.

Golden era: 1996-2000 (apogee:1998, with the western release, the 1st movie, the franchise was surely at his peek in popularity and sales-speaking).
Middle era: 2001-2004 (That's probabily considered a rather not so high point for a lot of them, many abandoned the franchise, it wasn't popular anymore, still no internet in-game, so many of them just didn't have fun to continue to playing).
Renaissance era: 2005-2007 (some of them comeback to play the game, also DP had wifi).
Platinum era: 2008-2012 (The peak of the franchise quality and content speaking. 2009 and 2012 the pinnacles).
Decandent/post-modern era: 2013-now (the franchise's decline, pokémon just seems to have become some generic e-sport now that TPCi is pushing a lot on competitive).
