The fact there was a giant mountain splitting the region, making your first time to any area literal pain and torture. Mt. Coronet is by far the worst idea in the history of Pokemon.

I think it's just because Gen 5 was different, it wasn't inspired by an area in Japan so design of the game and especially Pokemon was out of a lot of people's comfort zones.
The biggest complaint about B/W is the Pokemon design, but outside of stuff like Garbodor, Vanilluxe, Keldeo, Genies, Stunfisk and probably a few others I'm forgetting, the designs were decent to god tier.
But they have a different style to them, so it irks a lot of people because when you put a Unova Pokemon next to say a Johto one, they'll look a little off together.
That's just my autismo theory though.

There was a thread a few days ago that devolved into Hoennbabbie vs Unovabortion shitposting, and since that thread there's been an especially high amount of Unova shitposting.
So when a thread started early yesterday about region rankings, someone eventually started shit because someone had Unova at the top, and the circle meme came from there.

The region is too bland and modern for me. I just can't get into it. It's subjective of me to say so, but they don't have any personality or charm; there are just paved roads, dull colours, and tall buildings. Even a town like Nacrene, which is supposed to be artistic and unique, is just a few houses located around a large strip of pavement with a small cafe that serves no purpose. Perhaps that's the crux of it: we have all of these towns in BW that have drawn inspiration from so many places, but there's nothing substantial to do in any of the towns. Nimbasa, for example, holds the musical, but it's just a cutscene of watching sprites awkwardly totter left to right. Castelia has the battle company building, but besides that, it's a tedious item hunt. Every other town certainly looks unique, but they are virtually the same in that all they have to offer are some houses with people that will give you some common items.
In Kanto, we had Celadon which hid the rare Eevee and had a game corner with Porygon, a fighting dojo in Saffron (where you could earn a Hitmonlee/Hitmonchan), a safari zone in Fuschia, and an abandoned labratory in Cinnibar; in Johto, we had the Sprout Tower in Violet city, the Dragon's Den in Blackthorn, Slowpoke well in Azalea, and a bug catching contest above Goldenrod, to name a few. I could bring examples from other gens, but my point is that these regions made exploring the towns fun and rewarding.
Compare this to Unova. We get to Nacrene, which has a Museum, but there's actually nothing worth looking at. Mistralton hosts airplanes, but they are only models which serve no purpose (this was fixed in BW2). Simply put, most of the towns look creative and grand, but they don't actually offer much to the player to do. I would say the post E4 towns are more interesting, but it's a long haul to get there.
BW is one of the only games that always seems to burn me out before I get too far.

Gen 1 people tend to complain about Hoenn, Hoenn people complain about Gen 5.
