Of course they will. The writers and directors shoehorn a lot of stupid stuff into the anime that either makes no sense whatsoever or just to shove something down your throat to show how much they like it. Greninja was cool to me at first, but it got so overrated that it's shit now. that they might as well make it the mascot for Pokemon now to replace Pikachuwhich they probably will doThe anime has gone to such shit now it's unwatchable.

If it makes it to Alola, I'll be surprised, considering Ash's track record for leaving behind his key 'mons.
The only literal exception to this clause was Kanto->Johto, but that could be chalked up to it being the first couple seasons and they went with continuity for continuity's sake.
If Greninja survives the trip to Alola, then the writing team for the anime was changed somewhere between gen 5 and 7 to allow this to happen.
