Why? In 3 years it'll be up to bat again. I see no reason in giving up when one shitty installment (or even several in a row) has no bearing on whether the next one is good.
No because there's an untouched treasure trove of Pokemon fangames. And if I can't find anything good, I'll just set up a randomizer, or make my own.

Nah. It has to try real hard for me to hate it and consider it shit. To me a shit Pokemon game would offer little to nothing new (mechanics, Pokemon, etc) and is too hand holdy. Don't delude yourself by believing it's going to be the best gen ever. You're setting yourself up for disappointment.
It would have to be pretty fucking horrible to make me quit.
