>In Jaune Plaza, there are two girls who are mimicking the sounds of Pokémon. In the Japanese version, one girl is mimicking the sound of Heatran while the other is complimenting her. However, this is mistranslated in the English version to imply that the Lava Dome Pokémon appears in Jaune Plaza.

Oh.. so that's what that was.

Early XY was amazing. The amount of people mindblown when we found out that if you can't pay your taxi fare, the taxi driver battles you.

And of course competitive-wise, no genies.

They are extremely centralising in Doubles format, especially Landorus-Therian which has Intimidate for -1 Attack to both opposing Pokemon when switching in, as well as STAB spread move Earthquake and Rock Slide for coverage and 51% chance to flinch at least one opposing Pokemon when faster. Thundurus has Prankster Twave for speed control, Prankster Swagger for last resort RNG abuse and Hidden Power Ice + higher speed stat to oneshot opposing Landorus. Less omnipresent, but still very much cancerous.

Genies though not exactly broken do honestly promote a rather monotonous meta. Thundurus and Landorus-T form such a good pair in doubles and a strong core that usually leads most teambuilding on the path to CHALK without even trying. If Ice were better these guys wouldn't be so bad but Ice is horrid defensively and Thunderbolt and Rock Slide would be incoming. They also encourage too much luck in matches. Landorus-T is easily able to spam ROCK Slide which is notorious in VGC for being a flinching spread move, and Thundurus having prankster Thunder Wave and a legal Swagger doesn't help either. CHALK in general has the issue of putting other mons into small niches due to how much the CHALK mons can do with little cost, but the genies due to their synergy, ability to easily combine luck and skill without being gimmicky in the slightest, sponge up the roles of Prankster and Intimidate on large chunks of teams, and the poor viability of Ice to stop people from almost fearlessly leading with the pair when not staring down a couple select threats makes them the worst.

in VGC15 (that pic is from Worlds15), the genies were extremely good pokemon. Landorus can provide intimidate support (which was invaluable in a meta with M-Kang), has pretty decent bulk, meaning it can stand most non-ice attacks, had a nice movepool and was pretty strong against other common pokemon, also the scarf set with rock slide became infuriating since the flinch chance is pretty high. Thundurus had prankster T Wave which on it's own is great, and also had good stats and typing, making bulky variants difficult to knock out while dealing decent damage; there was also the possibility of priority swagger, which not only is pretty powerful, alongside T-Wave and Lando's Rockslide made games RNG-heavy, which is very cancerous.
The mons themselves weren't broken by any means, but when you also have things like M-Kangaskhan, Heatran, Cresselia, etc, you can have a team of 6 pokemon that are just very good on their own and also pair up incredibly well, which resulted in those pokemon becoming boringly overused. In Worlds top 8, 6 of the 8 players had some variation of the same team, and all 8 players had Landorus-T.

>>
>>26656742
