To be quite honest I'm not a fan of Pokemon, but I am a fan of Ingress and I think the Pokemon twist is fucking cool. Imagine my surprise when I logged onto /vp/ expecting dozens of threads about the invites going out, but apparently going out in the sun and catching pokemon is too "normie" for /vp/

My gf got accepted. She got bulbasaur as a starter and she just went out to catch a nearby haunter. The gym is 2 blocks from our apartment which is cool.
We live in a smaller city so there isn't very much landmark type stuff. The closest thing was a thai restraunt around the corner. Then two churches and a park.

You can turn off the camera function. And then the pokemon is directly in front of you no matter where your phone is pointed. Problem solved.

Big cities have tons of pokestops everywhere, smaller towns and less urban areas have far lower frequencies and sometimes none. I know a couple of people in the beta who can't even play because there's no pokestops or gyms anywhere in their towns.

I got an invite. I know it's just a beta but it feels very unfinished and not really what I was hoping for. Buggy, tedious mechanics, gets repetitive quick. imo ingress was super garbage. GO isn't much better but atleast you can aim to collect all of the pokemon. atm there's no trainer v trainer battling or trading and that's what I really want in a game like this. ESPECIALLY where certain pokemon are biome-common. Trading would add a huge depth to the game if you could trade for things you can only get here for things you can only get there, etc.
