The battle frontier debuted in hoenn. When you're making a game that features hoenn, you would expect at least the same amount of content that the region had in fucking 2004.
HGSS included the features that crystal introduced, so it wasn't unreasonable at all to expect that GF would to the same for ORAS. they were literally just too lazy, that's it.

It can easily be construed that Latiosite is a Soul Dew containing the soul of a Latias that has mutated into a Mega Stone, and Latiasite is a Soul Dew containing the soul of a Latios that has mutated into a Mega Stone.
Mega Latias and Latios are, put quite simply, fusions of the living Lati with the soul of the other, which is why red and blue come together for purple on both.
