I totally accept Blaziken. It's a competition bred fighting cock with the fighting angle played up hard. It unfortunately set a shitty precedent with future starters but it itself looks cool as shit. Gen 3 starters are tied for coolest with Gen 1.

I genuinely can't understand why anyone would hate the design. The only reasonable explanation for people hating it is if they hate frogs overall.
It's a very creative execution of a concept that has folklore behind it; is the closest to frog-like in terms of anatomy, and can convincingly pull of both doof and aloof looks, so it has big appeal regardless; It isn't overly simple or overly complicated, and very few designs can dance within that much pursued line of creativity.
It is also creative in a natural way and doesn't try to play it completely safe. It's a great design.

Samurott's a good design people who haven't seen many pictures of Sea Otters can't appreciate. Snivy is a regal looking snake. Little problems with it there. Emboar is a big ass pro wrestling/Sumo pig. They really look far better than Chesnaught and Delphox.

But also a little more than that. Once Greninja was revealed the fan art of the two just kept pouring in, because on both sides of the ocean people loved Serena and Greninja.
Plus something Greninja has that the other starters don't (except Sceptile?) is the whole Lady/Retainer thing since Greninja is a ninja and the trainer is effectively their Lord. Makes for nice art.
Chestnaught could have been even better for that since it's a literal knight but Chestnaught is ugly so…
