I did that wit Tepig in Black 2. I didn't want to restart the game, but I didn't particularly like Pignite, so I boxed the dumb thing and used that level 35 Volcarona in the ruins as my Fire Type. Lol, it was Adamant nature Volcarona too (promotes its worst stat and hinders its best stat), and still was better than that dumb pig. Most disappointing starter of all time.
I did that in BW and BW2 because I hated the Gen V starters, it's in-game pokemon it's not like it matters what you use as long as you like them

It's not a crime in Gen 5. The starters, even if you like their designs, are not very good in game, and there are so many new Pokemon to use that it's easy to find a better replacement.

My reasoning for boxing my starters as soon as I can is because I really like to make these games feel like my very own adventure. It's just no fun if everybody uses the starters all the way through their journey.
I like to catch and try different pokemon I don't usually run in new games, like when I had a Masquerain in my party during ORAS. It was a lot of fun and you end up with some pretty unexpected bros.

Samurott is not a Smogon powerhouse, but it can pull its weight beautifully in-game. Emboar is tanky as fuck and was one of the few pokemon that lasted forever when I nuzlocked BW, altough i can see the appeal of switching him for faster nukes like Darmanitan
