The pages in the pokedex for new gen 3 pokemon are hilariously misinformed

>Grass/Electric
>This pokemon is rumoured to be a a pre-evolution of ledyba.
>This pokemon is supposedly a grass and flying type and most likely electric too.

http://www.pojo.com/pokedex/Advancepokemon/Yomarawu.html
>Ghost/Fighting
>Some people believe this to a pre-evolution of Misdreavus.
>This pokemon is most likely a ghost pokemon, but it looks like it may be a ground type too.

and the best one
>Today i got an e-mail from a fan saying that Yomarawu may be a pre-evolved form of Koffing. On the back of the pokemon there is a bone similar to the bone on the front of Koffing. The pokemon's body looks like it may be made up of gas, hence the gas that appears from Koffing.

SPP was just a random fansite in a sea of them back in the day, while Pojo was one of the biggest sites. Pojo expanded to other stuff when the fad began to fade.

Serebii didn't become more than a blip on the radar until early gen 2 when there was less competition. One of the big reasons it got as big as it did was because he found an obscure Japanese fansite with detailed summaries of future episodes, which he had his staff run through babelfish and clean them up a bit to make them seem like he wrote them (then had the balls to stick a "Do NOT translate into your own language and claim as your own" disclaimer on them because people kept stealing them). Since it was the only real source of future anime information, the site naturally got popular.

>>26612665
The internet was a very different place in the late 90s. There wasn't a streamlined system for getting info about Japanese shit like there is today, so there were a lot more rumors circulating around and nobody knew what to believe. The fourth evolution of the starters were one of the more popular rumors, because it seemed pretty logical at the time (the series hadn't been around long enough for the "Pokemon only have three stages" thing to be a hard rule yet).

It's like how if you mention XY's tipping system, it'll always trigger an argument over whether or not it raises style points (it doesn't). Imagine how much worse it was back when datamining was rare and nobody knew which sources were trustworthy. Hell, as you can see in this very thread, even the "trustworthy" sources were usually full of shit.

>One of the big reasons it got as big as it did was because he found an obscure Japanese fansite with detailed summaries of future episodes, which he had his staff run through babelfish and clean them up a bit to make them seem like he wrote them
Man I used to do the same with my Beyblade fansite, but it never took off

Damn, Pojo was one of the first sites I used to browse for Pokemon and Yugioh news. Also enjoyed reading the Cotd there. Wonder if those are still archived.

Also, somewhat related, but I think this is the oldest Pokemon video on youtube

Some time ago /a/s digimon tri thread/ found a digimon shipping fansite that was last updated in the year 2000. Through some digging I found that the author is still active online and she's still apparently a bit of a weeaboo and is still into games and anime.

I love me some internet archaeology. It seems that a lot of the people who had websites early on have become quite influential nowadays in their fandoms, though that's probably survival bias, the sites that didn't get much of a following eventually disappeared.

I, personally, made the mistake of creating my site on MSN groups. The platform didn't last long.
