I usually started with Volcarona to quickly dispatch potential entry hazard setters like Ferrothorn; Stealth Rock is a huge problem for a bug team. Galvantula did had Sticky Web, but with Sash I often used it as an anti-Bravest Bird instead, my other biggest threat.

Gym theme would be wandering into the "woods" and generally being tricked by ghosts. Teleports, fake trainers, real trainers that blend into the background, general almost frustrating bullshit.
Gym leader is laid back and jolly, contrasting with the usually somber ghost trainers.
Level/evolution curve may be skewed because I can't remember the level curve. Spiritomb early because it looks cool and isn't too strong.
