I really doubt it'll only be used for the final fight, Solgaleo and Lunala will be encountered at the pyramid/temple like structure and then we'll likely fight the evil team elsewhere to stop them. There's too much on that island to justify it being used only for the legendaries.

If anything, that canyon will act as a dungeon to get to the temple you fight Solgaleo/Lunala. There's that tree at the top, but I doubt whatever happens there will be anything more substantial than maybe the third legendary encounter. I really don't think we'll be visiting that island after that.

It's not, if you pay attention to the background of the first trailer when Solgaleo and Lunala are shown you can see that exact pyramid and platform. It's the temple/shrine of the legendaries, not the League.
