Is- is that a trailer park?
>>
>>26591685
Didn't Unova also have trailers?
>>
Mega-Zoroark confirmed.

What are you talking about, Alola IS part of Unova :^)

Southeast Alola.jpg

The big island is definitely the weirdest.

>Japanese city
>Observatory
>Ice mountain
>Desert and badlands
>Restricted area with funnel shaped machines
>Trailer park and motel separated from Pokemon Center
>Desolate southern tip with artificial structure in the water
>Isolated mini archipelago
>High tech looking trailer
>Swamp and strange lake/moat structure
>Rainy route leading up to a drab, sealed off city

I'm getting some really nasty vibes from that walled city. The dreary and oppressive atmosphere doesn't look like anything else in Pokemon.
>>
>>26591724
Underrated post.
>>
>>26591856
Seriously, will Alola be the most diverse region we've had yet?
>>
>>26591856
All comes together :D
>>
>>26591703
Yessir. Just west of Nimbasa, and I think a few more to the east.
>>
>>26591856
That walled city looks a lot like the Azoth Kingdom from the new Volcanion and Magearna movie
>>
>>26591856
We've already gotten a walled city in Lacunosa, but this seems to be another step beyond.
>>
>>26591899
It's pretty much 95% tropical..
>>
>>26591949
Not temperature wise you idiot
>>
>>26591970
That was quick

And yes, it's 95% tropical. 90% at the minimum. Don't pretend like it isn't.
>>
>>26591856
I think its so intriguing in how diverse it is. I really want to be able to move my character through a bamboo grove, across the badlands near it, and then up an icy peak all close by. The big island intrigues me so much due to its diversity.
>>
>>26591985
Not diverse when it comes to temperatures. But diverse when it comes to settings, cities, surroundings, cultural influences etc
>>
>>26591998
People criticized Kalos and even sometimes Unova for this exact thing
>>
>>26592012
See I really like the diversity as it adds to the feeling that you are exploring a completely new area and in a new region rather than feeling like you are walking along the same route in other regions, just edited with better graphics
>>
>>26592012
Not really right? Unova's main critique was being too linear which was fixed with BW2, Kalos's main critique was that it seemed like there were parts that were unfinished like railroads, power plants etc.
>>
>>26591856
TINY
REGION
>>
>>26591735
Unova isnt the whole America, anon. Its a region in it, just like Kanto isnt the whole Japan.
>>
>>26591899
Not really since every region since Gen 5 has been a collection of randomly placed biomes of every kind...
>>
>>26591856
I just hope it's not like Kalos with going from city to badlands to swamp to snow area with no transition in between. I hope it's more like Sinnoh and Hoenn in that each of the areas seem naturally placed
>>
>>26592048
Plus Unova was based off of New York City and part of New Jersey, not the entire USA.
>>
>>26592029
The problem with Unova was that it had a fucking desert in the middle of a bunch of cities for no reason.
Similarly, Kalos has the Badlands and a ocean-side route next to each other, and follows a swampy forest with an autumnal atmosphere and then suddenly huge snow banks, back to regular routes, and then a city in permanent snow... next to a temperate forest.

Why on earth they didnt just put the Ice gym in the Windmill town or whatever with the other snowy shit, who the fuck knows
>>
>>26592061
It's been like this since Gen 3 actually. Gen 2 if you count random Ice Caves.

Because it needs diversity to not be flat or one note. It doesn't have to be realistic, it's a video game and fiction altogether.

>>
>>26592163
There's a difference between diverse ecosystems and biomes, and being schizophrenic.
The snowy city, ice cave, and mamoswine routes should all be near each other and there was no good reason to have a fucking desert in between the two biggest cities in the region.
>>
>>26592197
But see that's the thing there doesn't have to be a reason. The Pokemon World isn't even supposed to be like planet Earth
>>

nope still not see it
wait the empy platforms and the one where the poke center is are the claws? a little froced but I can see it now

They mean the set of docks, if you look at it with the Pokemon Center being on a claw you can sort of see it.

any buildings/caves you guys think might be gyms?
>>
>>26592343
Snowy mountain area again.
Fuck yes.
>>
>>26592493
Nope I think that one is a contest hall as in the same town a building can be seen with what looks to be a gym sign on its roof
>>
>>26592163
You can have diversity and not have it be lazy.
Sinnoh made geographic sense, it had the snowy area in the northern mountains.

Also, not every game needs to have an ice town, a desert town, et cetera. It gets old.
>>
>>26592219
The Pokémon world generally had believable ecology until gen 5's desert

It's a power plant.

>>
>>26591856
Also the mini archipelago has an island in the shape of an arm with a square on it's palm.
>>
>Ecruteak City
>Mt. Coronet
>Hoenn rainforests/surf routes
>Kalos Badlands/Power Plant
>Unova Trailers
>AZOTH Kingdom
>All packed into one island
>>
>>26591685
anyone else getting a real Borderlands vibe from the whole big island? especially the trailer park and the bizarre walled city.

man if they do that right it'll be so good
>>
>>26592061
Gen 5's biomes were completely fine, there was like one desert but it was surrounded by buildings and had a semi-pseudo-legendary Fire type resting underground there which might explain why it was so dried out. People also bitch about Lentimas Town without realizing that it's made of volcanic clay. Unova was really no less cohesive and plausible than its predecessor regions.

Kalos is the only region that had a major problem with randomly slapped-on biomes.

>>
>>26592554
I really doubt that building is the gym, mostly because there are only two buildings on the map that look exactly like that one, this one and one in the big city on the starting island. Gen 5 started a trend of gyms being very distinct looking buildings, not one of them looking like the others, I don't see why they would go back to the Gen 1-4 method of gym buildings. If anything the big flashy building in that town there could very well be the gym, or it could even be the one with the parking lot.

Fun fact: Both of these are based on real places in Hawaii, the Mauna Kea observatories and Punalu'u beach, respectively. Pic related is the latter.
We should try to find any other resemblances to the real Hawaii.

To be fair, the Mauna Kea Observatories are much bigger and well-known, and you don't really need to add more than one observatory to the game.

You know, a lot of people have brought up the idea of the snow mountain being the location of the League, but what if that's not the case at all? What if it's a location similar to Mt. Silver? Just think about it, it has an elevator leading all the way to the top which looks like you need special access to use, a secluded Pokemon Center at the very top of the mountain, no actual building in site (which ruins the idea of it being the League), and the actual peaks of the mountain are strangely detailed compared to the rest of the area leading up to them. X and Y had a ton of throwbacks to Gen 1 (going so far as making the jobs Team Flare pulled being exactly the same as Team Rocket), so what if Sun and Moon have a ton of throwbacks to Gen 2? Maybe going as far as to have an old protagonist at the top of this mountain?
>>
>>26592556
>>26593072

Geothermal power. It's a form of carbon free power generation that works by heating up water in pipes using geothermal heat from deep in the earth of volcanically active areas. Pretty much ideal for a place like Hawaii in real life or Alola in the pokemon world.

FUN FACT: In the Jurassic Park novels ingen Site B is run on geothermal power as it requires almost no day to day maintenance once set up and can produce energy around the clock, perfect for powering your secret off grid dino making labs.
>>
>>26591856

>>
>>26592061
>>26592083
People talk about Unova but this was always present.
Johto (now) has Random Ice Cave, a city between a dense forest and a dense cave, a very small patch of always rainy land, and random autumn trees that only grow in a small area. Not to mention ultra modern city in the center of a rural region, when a city like that would definitely be a port town in a place like Johto.

I'd also make a note about how a mega sports complex is right next to a sleepy national park but I'm not entirely sure how weird that is.
