gen 5 had the most forgettable pokemon by far but this thing was especially bad because it looks similar to Feebas or Magikarp but doesn't evolve at all, so it's pretty much worthless.

It means that charizard as generic as you can get to attract kids, and make them project a sense of power.
Blastoise combines two things, cannons and a turtle, making it original over tanks and turtles that kids see on daily basis.
There is little to NO difference between Charizard and other dragons

The majority of all Pokemon are not cooler than dragons. For every cool design, there are three Spritzees, Metapods, or Oshawotts. It's pretty much the nature of the series, I don't fault it.

Metapoda are necessary to create a sende of realism in the world.
Most, if not all, dragons are just a safe way to say "how will we make something so that boys think its badass"
And charizard is the biggest example of that.
