I don't mind the asymmetrical bar too much. Makes me think of fighting game HP bars and I dig that. Not so sure about the dash of colour behind the bar though. Thought it looked kinda distracting in the trailer.
You'll get used to it, this is just the first time the HP bar visuals have seen changed significantly

I hate that the useless color splat behind it and the ability prompt obstructs like 40% of the battle screen. I mean, just look at this shit, you can barely see the Salamence anymore. What happened to BW2/XY neat and tidy battle interface?

It just looks ugly, that's it. I always appreciate all of the little aesthetic improvements in Pokemon, like Pokemon closing it's eyes when they fall asleep, but an uneven HP bar that covers a large chunk of the screen seems like a pretty objective downgrade. And if you're playing competitively you'll be seeing the ability prompt quite a lot.

The new battle hud is fucking amazing, I love it.
In fact, the new pokedex and speech bubbles all look great. Menu design in general is really cool so far.
