He's great when I don't quite have the type advantage due to all the stuff u can set up after Spore. I even got a Jolly Nature to make sure I can out speed most of the time. However due to the moveset I gave him he's hard to train without his current held item.
If you do plan on using one I recommend farming rock smash heart scales in Olivine because it doesnt have the possibility of spawning Geodudes. When it comes to getting the right moves if you also don't have a second DS or a friend to help you don't worry. Just find the Pokemon with the move you want, delete every other move and then find a ditto on route 35 and get the move from it when it transforms!
Sadly this method is only sound for the Johto games but I'm sure there's variants of it in other games where Smeargle is available.

Did a little challenge to prove if earlier games really were easier than XYORAS or it was just nostalgia. No exp from wild pokemon allowed.
Emerald, team just before Wallace. Hardest points in the game were Winona and Wallace himself due to how spread thin xp was. For those curious how I managed to get a Salamence, I caught a Bagon at highest possible wild level of 35,and saved all optional routes worth of trainers for it, as well as every rare candy found in the overworld.

Oh no, I didn't grind on wildmons at all, or use Match call for that matter. I did carefully plan my team ahead to make sure not a drop of xp went to waste though, which isn't something I or F would want to encourage, since there's no experimenting with different Pokemon.
And thanks. Aggron was actually a last minute decision just for Winona,I had the whole of Route 119, Fortree Gym and some skipped trainers to make it a Lairon at the time.
Did something similar with Leafgreen, but I let myself cheat a little by switching versions for Growlithe. With how much xp and all the rare candies Dratini sucked up, there wasn't enough to make my Rhyhorn actually useful. Also, levels are lower.
Way easier than Emerald, but Green gave me a bit of trouble at the end. Venusaur could stall out just about anything for me to heal my whole team with sleep and seeds.

No, I didn't. XP priority just went to Swampert, and salamence once I got a Bagon. A fuckton of exp actually came from the E4 themselves, this is just before champion Wallace's room.
