I feel like there's two ways the story could go with her, either she's a part of a local prophecy alongside the protagonist and she will be used as a sort of sacrifice to the legendaries for some reason, possibly to make the prophecy come true, or she's somehow related to the antagonist or maybe is the antagonist herself. It's possible that Sun and Moon will have a lot of throwbacks and references to Gen 2 much like how X and Y had a ton to Gen 1, so why not bring forward one of the biggest twists from Gen 2, the rival being the child of the antagonist?
