Step 1: double click the color you want
Step 2: click define custom colors
Step 3: choose the shade you want (should be displaying shades of the color you double-clicked on)
Step 4: establish light source and shade away
Then if it doesn't look quite right, just play around with the shades til you get it looking just right. And the green asterisk is just so if you fudge the pallet up too much, all the original colors are right there under "Basic Colors" right above where it says "define custom colors" in Step 2.

Doesn't matter. Let's just say jpeg will rough up the image while png will leave it exactly as-is which makes it easier for transparencies and such.
Like when you copy+paste a google image of something and you try to fill color around it or something and there's that crap all around it, making it unusable. But if you save as a png, it will be like the pic on the right, able to be transparently copy+pasted wherever you want. Which is especially helpful when you're using mspaint for drawing or whatever and are moving things around and filling colors, etc.

Requesting a fakemon line for gen 7. Like a volcano with a red/orange/black pallet, in the first stage its pretty much just a ball with 4 openings on the bottom like feet, if it had a animation it would keep trying to jump up but *just* can't do it. The second stage is sort of a tower shape with lot of holes covering it where smoke would come out, resembling the tower of babble. The third stage would be a floating structure with 1 big/ a lot of clouds that would have lighting or some sort of flash making the eye. The first to stages would be pure fire/fire ground and the final would be fire electric. The idea is it uses cloud with volcanic dust to generate static electricity and also has a tower of babel motif, or to try to reach heaven. I know there are a lot of volcano pokemon/fakemon but it would be great if someone could do this. Add all the typical pokemon stuff like cutesy eyes or patterns or whatever just an idea I haven't been able to visualize for a while.

Yeah, sounds like you're on the right track. Color's a pain to get down. It's helped me a ton to use basic schemes and go from there. Going off your sketchdumps, your colors feel washed out. Compare to pic related where the grass highlights are more blueish and the darker parts are more purple, but the grass still registers as grass as whole.
