I actually really like the Team Flare battle theme and especially Lysandre's theme. I even liked the legendary theme. This is definitely not one of the ones I liked.

though this certainly is the weakest gym leader theme in the series don't get me wrong. it's just not horrible awful irredeemable as a piece of music by itself. compared to the others, yeah its shit.

Gym leader themes are the most consistently great musical element of the series, and Gen VI was the first to fuck it up. Seriously, every single prior gen has a gym leader theme that is a highlight of its soundtrack.

It's not as high-energy as the other gym themes. It doesn't really get you pumped. It's not a bad battle theme by any means, but for a gym theme it just doesn't fit. All the other gym themes really got you in the groove for an intense fight, but this just lacks the oomph the others have. It's bland and boring compared to the rest. How they thought this was a good idea is beyond me.

I guess I'm a very small minority. To me, pretty much every gym leader theme is generic and forgettable except Gens I, II and XY's.
Gen I because it's a classic and got a lot of exposure via the anime. II because they're my most played games to the date. and XY for how different it was. First time I didn't even noticed the theme, but then I heard it with headphones on and immediately became my favorite.
Sure it's not energetic. But, to me, it represents the battle being more about strategy and thinking.
