Since I bought it on release date in 2014 I haven't had a chance to completely play through it. Which starter and team do you recommend I pick now that I have time to play it before Sun and Moon's release?
Blaziken is a great choice to breeze through the game, but choose sceptile for a challenge.

I used Swampert, Gallade, Sableye, Altaria, Roserade, and Lanturn. Was fairly surprised how well they all worked together.

I started with Treecko in ORAS, turned off the Exp. Share, and set battle type to Set, and I still annihilated the game with ease.

This. Gen 6 games are far too easy (especially if you leave exp share on). Use whichever one you like most.
Most peeps have a special fire type autism, and since Camerupt and Torkoal are meh, they pick Torchic. Blaziken (especially mega evo) makes game ezpz.
