Plenty of those revolved around the same gimmicks as Gen I Pokémon; the annoying bat (Woobat), the Fighting-type one that helps in construction (Timburr line), the Rock-type who evolves through trading (Roggenrola line), the martial artists (Throh and Sawk), the list goes on and on. Gen V had shitty Pokémon that ripped off the old ones.

The girls except Iris and Lenora are literally the best characters simply because of their PokéGirl quality. Hilbert, Nate and Hugh are OK. The gym leaders were fine too, but Alder was lame. The perpetually annoyed Cheren was annoying. N was a rip-off of Kaworu from NGE. Can't say much about Team Plasma; I just can say that their priorities were pretty skewed, though they're not as nearly as bad as Flare.

Gen I is the best cause it was the first
Gen 5 is easily the best, though I didn't vote for it as my personal favourite. I was stuck between Gen 2 and 3 for fondest memories and most replay (HGSS would be there too, but Diamond and Pearl were pretty bad, and I can't even enjoy them when I go back now, it has to be Platinum or bust). I went with Gen 3 because I early stopped playing Pokemon altogether thanks to dumb opinions based on highschool (I assume it would be middle school if I were in USA) peers, before I bought my copy of Ruby and realized, fuck it, I can like whatever I want to like.

I don't know how they went from making the garbage known as DPPt to crafting HGSSand PMD2then went beyond that on to follow up with Gen V. It's like they replaced all of GF with competent designers.

What was Zubat's gimmick? That it's a weakish Pokémon that you'll find in any cave. What was Woobat's gimmick? That it's a weakish Pokémon that you'll find in any cave.
Thus, they reused the same gimmick that made Zubat stand out.
Now, what are Kaworu Nagisa defining character traits? He is a young light-haired noble beign who wanted to be friends (or possibly more than that) with Shinji (A.K.A the protagonist). What are N's defining character traits? He is a young light-haired noble being who wanted to be friends with the protagonist.
Thus, rather than creating a new, completely original character, they exported Kaworu's character into the game in the form of N. Stupidly, this isn't the first time it's been done: Wally is also clearly inspired on Kaworu, but N has more things in common.
Do people typically count remakes in the gen they were released or the gen they were based on?
