So seriously, why was this so expensive? It's just a bike.

Well I mean a bottle of fresh water is $300 so maybe theres just a lot of inflation in the pokemon world
>>
>>26480837
The pricing is based off of Yen.

So 300 would be like $2
>>
>>26480837
You mean ¥300
>>
>>26480809

>>

Which still puts the bike at over $9000 US.
>>
>>26480854
That still makes the bike $10,000 which is insane.
>>
>>26480809
So that you have to go get the bike ticket from the Pokemon Fan Club guy
>>
>>26480890
>>26480893

Some higher end bikes are priced in the thousands.

It is clear there are practically no bike vendors other than this guy, so he runs a regional monopoly in kanto.

So he inflates the price by several-fold.

Sounds reasonable to me.
>>
>>26480893
>Trying to sell a kid a $10,000 bike.

OH BUT YOU A BIKE VOUCHER! HERE YA GO!
>>
It's not even a motorbike
>>
There are $10,000 mountain bikes. There seem to be no cars in Kanto and the terrain isn't built for them either; combine that with the fact that this is the ONLY bike shop in the whole region allowing for inflation and bam, that price makes sense.

No, it's not. I used to have a 9k bike that was gifted to me.

The bike in Pokemon is collapsable and sturdy. $10,000 is steep but not insane.

>>26480991
This.
>>
A kid's interpretation of money is quite limited. The value of the bike in reality may be $100-200 but to them it feels like thousands. Kids like to exaggerate.

But in reality it's so you don't break the plot.
>>
>A kid's interpretation of money is quite limited.

Do you also think buildings lack doors because you're ignoring those houses?

You're fucking stupid if so.

The money in Pokemon isn't part of some comatose fever dream bullshit. It's a metric with value.
>>
When you try to leave Pallet town, Oak tells you that it's dangerous because of wild pokemon and that you need your own pokemon for your protection. So have their been cases of people getting injured for recklessly venturing outside in the past? And in Kanto's route 1 there's only Pidgeys and Rattatas. Yet when you go to the Safari Zone you aren't allowed to use your pokemon there and the area consists of giant bugs and a bull to count the more fearsome of the bunch.

The truck is immobile.

You could make the same case about the St. Anne or the Magnet Train. A motor vehicle is a motor vehicle.

The point is, in Kanto, motor vehicles aren't ubiquitous. The only named roads in Kanto are a quiet pier (Silence Bridge), and a road built for bicycling (Cycling Road).

Compare that to Unova, with bridges and train stations.

Keep in mind, there are areas of rural japan that still lack this-century amenities, like the internet. Pic related: this scene from nearly 20 years ago still holds some truth today.

Sylph scope was only needed in that tower so it's safe to assume there's a special energy or something that hides the ghosts. Considering there was a magic healing area as well it makes sense.
Original region of moving trainers can easily be retconned in later, but it's not that important.

>>26481459
Yeah this is true, it would be cool to see a common ancestor to them or something.

>>26481464
They're not going to fuck with the dex for nidoran line.
We might see OG dragon someday.
I think the tunnel connect Johto and Sinnoh had a lot of fucky magic going on.
Anime isn't canon in the games.
Gengar is clearly based on a similar design to clefable yes, that is probably the inspiration but it isn't literally its shadow.
Space. The panspermia hypothesis is canon in Pokemon, and Arceus created all pokemon IIRC, so he just flung a bunch onto the moon too.
Red went there to train, it's a pretty common trope isn't it? I think Ryu did the same thing after SF2. Also Mt. Silver is Fuji.
Shadow Triad are confirmed to not be, unfortunately.
Tangela has blackface on.
They stole the spoons. Or it's actually a part of their body.
Giovanni lied. He is also partly inspired by thsi guy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yukio_Mishima
Because their base was probably only a half secret.

It was. Assuming the missing text, it reads.

>“…ber, 6th day

again, let it be a kindhearted person.
With that hope, I depart.” Fuji

Based on the Cinnabar journals, Mew was discovered on July 5, named on July 10, cloned on February 6, and the project was seemingly abandoned on September 1.

The final entry is actually a bit different in Japanese, hinting at a greater urgency.

>
ダメだ⋯
わたしの てには おえない! Diary: September 1

"The Pokémon Mewtwo is far too powerful.
It's no use…
I cannot control it!"

It could be assumed Fuji returned Mew to Utmost Island that week, but it simply reading "ber" leaves it a bit more open, geographically.

The Oshawott family are able to manipulate their keratin outside of their body, to the point of making seashell-shaped armor that can easily attach and reattach to their bodies. Samurott's proficiency at this ability allows it to snap off a piece of its armor, have that piece forge into a sword, and break down to be reattached, all rapidly taking place within a quickdraw and "sheathing" motion. If you were to shave a Samurott's facial hair off, can it regrow that instantaneously as well?

Sylph Co. is probably the company who makes industry scale pokeballs, before that, people would craft pokeballs with apricorns.

Gyms could have started as a kind of attraction, like olympics. As people started getting good at battling, they probably decided to make a final test, the elite 4.

There was likely a point when Pokeballs weren't a thing. Maybe they were able to tame pokemon without a Pokeball. Whips likely, if some of the R/B/Y sprites are anything to go by. Pokeballs were probably made to make the process much easier. There's also that Pokeball factory in Kalos. Once people started to catch Pokemon and discover their typing and all that it would then go to see that some attacks pokemon have are effective against specific types and thus battling.

Once people got the idea to make teams of pokemon like this they eventually came up of a competition of some kind; to see who was the best trainer at least in the region.

But what I find interesting to question is; Since every single region has the exact same format of 8 gyms and the elite 4 is there a region that came up with the idea first and traveling trainers went back to their region and spread the idea? Would it be Kanto or some other region?
>>
>>26480809
Monopoly. Offer and demand at action. If you don't have any more bicycle suppliers, you're forced to pay whatever they like for the things they offer.
>>
>>26481432
That would explain why every single region seems to use the same currency. I bet the leagues are there to make it seem like there's some control in the region so that crime doesn't run rampant (even though it does anyways with villainous teams running around).

These are theories that people enjoy discussing BECAUSE they're not officially proved. That's the whole point. It's interesting because "we" came up with it and it somewhat makes sense. Kabutops has a bug-esque physique that resemble's Genesect, it's an ancient pokémon, it could very well be. And even if it's never proved, it's a cool theory to talk about nonetheless. Even if it's not canon. Canon isn't everything, Richard.

well that was more of my assumption since you don't get any back when you use them wither you successfully catch them or not

That was confirmed in BW2.

And of course there is the Eternal Flower Floette who left AZ

Having a Pokemon game take place in the past like that would be pretty neat. But not as a main game of course

This implies it originally had a Canon and they made it better. Kabutops isn't genesect.

I don't think you can. There's probably a 999,999 limit.

This Pokémon existed 300 million years ago. Team Plasma altered it and attached a cannon to its back.

>Maybe they were able to tame pokemon without a Pokeball.

Isn't it said in one game that Pokemon and humans came to a mutual agreement to assist each other? I think

>Sometimes Pokémon would run away from awful Trainers who didn't try to understand them.

supports that notion, and it makes sense considering the whole idea that Pokemon and humans are meant to cooperate and are able to understand each other on a higher level than humans and animals.

I think in the Arceus movie, Pokemon were harnessed, but if you don't think the anime is canon, I think the way "capturing" Pokemon worked in the old days was more like befriending them. In fact, I think Pokeballs might still operate somewhat on that notion of befriending the target, rather than physically restraining them. It would make sense as to why rarer/stronger Pokemon have lower catch rates, because they may feel like they gain less from a symbiotic relationship with humans.

It would also support why Master Balls are so scarce, because they forcefully restrain a Pokemon against their will, and probably have controversy surrounding them. The player usually is either entrusted with a Master Ball from a person of authority because they trust that the trainer will use it for the greater good, or are stolen from evil teams that want to forcefully enslave highly powerful Pokemon that are better off not being disturbed (the Magma/Aqua base).
>>
>>26485079
Master Balls are literally shit at enslaving powerful Pokemon. Cyrus says so himself in DPP and just gives you the thing.

You apparently can't control the power of Pokemon that would actually make you godlike (namely the Creation Trio) even if you catch them.

There's nothing mentioned about abuse by either him or the interviewer. And who's to say that Pokemon aren't provided sustenance and shelter for their work, just like the humans they work alongside? It's not abuse or slavery if both parties are providing a mutual consensual service to each other, so there should be nothing wrong with putting Pokemon to work. Especially when they have such insanely powerful supernatural skills that humans themselves don't have, like the ability to generate heat, water, electricity, plant life, influence physical matter with mere thoughts, fly, and so on. Why shouldn't those things be used for the benefit of all?

Though I dunno, maybe Masuda's just trying to cover his tracks in case there are still fanatical people who cry about Pokemon being an inhumane work of the devil.

>>26485144
You can't control it yourself, but you own the force behind that destructive power, which is scary. Mewtwo in the hands of Team Rocket, Groudon in the hands of Team Magma, etc. are still capable of causing widespread devastation, and so are Dialga/Palkia/Giratina, even if Cyrus can't get them to create him a new universe.

Pokemon have to obey the commands of their masters, but I'm sure legendary Pokemon are on a high enough plane of intelligence to resist using their OP world-building powers if they know it would cause the extinction of life as we know it, just because one human told them to.
>>
>>26485218
>Why shouldn't those things be used for the benefit of all?

They probably are, Masuda just rejected the premise of humans forcing Pokemon to do their work. "wouldn't want to use Pokemon in such a manner as making them work to do something"

There are Pokemon who are willing to help people, power and construct their homes, after all we see it in the games. But if the Pokemon in question doesn't want to work it won't, simple as that.

>Pokemon have to obey the commands of their masters

Is this every stated anywhere? Because I don't think that's actually true.
>>
>>26484200
>realistic
>a meddling kid manages to save the world from a villain who had an entire mafia under its control and plans to destroy humanity/universe

This is the problem with the new villains, Giovanni was just chilling, and decided to become a normal trainer again after the thrill of battling MC, Archie and Maxie thought that they were doing the world a favor.

Also, in Johto you help an Ampharos that was sick, and don't even get me started on Marowak.

>Pokemon have to obey the commands of their masters
They really don't, charizard not obeying ash is not an anime thing only, it is a mechanic ingame.
>>
>>26485218
Cyrus is retarded for not just catching them, but it doesn't mean that the legendaries would become brainwashed slaves.

>>26485423
Pokemon under the ownership of a master do what their master wants them to do, regardless of the master's motives. There's no such thing as a good/evil Pokemon, only good/evil people. Pokemon can be stubborn if they don't feel like their master is experienced enough for them, but they're still at their service in the end. I think the whole disobedience mechanic is more grounded in gameplay than in lore, to discourage players from steamrolling a fresh save file with a traded in level 70 Pokemon, but I guess it's still a valid point of discussion anyway.

For some reason, the first place my brain jumps to when saying this is that episode of the show when Jessie's, James', and the twerps' Pokemon are all stranded on the island together and team up to find their masters, but for some reason I feel like the matter must have come up in one of the Gen 5 games. Feel free to not take any of what I said as fact if you know of anything that states otherwise, though.
>>
>>26485436
That's what I was saying. Legendaries will obey as far as battle and practical uses are concerned, but can't just be told to create life anew just because someone managed to cram them into a Pokeball and give them an order to. They're probably intelligent enough to have limits in that sense, and that's probably what makes them so resistant to capture in the first place.
>>
>>26485616
The disobedience is probably more grounded on lore than mechanics, since a lvl 70 pokemon will still steamroll through almost anything even if it is not obeying properly.

Also, just because you captured a pokemon, it is not yours forever, they say that if you try to capture a pokemon that already has a master you are a thief, which means that it is possible to capture a pokemon that is already captured.

>>26485655
I don't think the pokemon would willingly obey instantaneously, but since you can control the pokemon's "freedom", you can basically torture it into obeying you.
>>
>>26485698
I said discourage, not stop entirely. It's like anti-piracy measures in that sense: they can't stop you from playing however you want, but they can make it annoying for you (think something like a pirated copy of Earthbound having jacked up encounter rates, for example)

About the thievery thing, I think ownership like that is similar to the way a person can own a car, with the Pokeball being like the ignition key. Yeah, someone can steal your keys and make your car work, but it's not "their" car. Plus, any time there's thievery in Pokemon games, the stolen Pokemon are always shown to be hesitant, miserable, or missing their OT. Pokemon have emotions and wills, and that's why they choose to join the trainers that capture them on their adventures and don't take too kindly to being stolen.
