They were planned, but scrapped from gen ii. If they were implemented how would the meta game be different?

Nobody would use status and it would be hyperoffense: the meta
Bulky mons would have no use because stallfags need status to win
Tons of pokemon would be unusable and some battles would be unwinnable.

One status out of 6 could be protected at a time. Fast physical sweepers would have to choose between burn or paralysis protection, while ALSO giving up Band, Scarf, and Life Orb. Status wouldn't be obsolete, but games would be decided in teambuilding even more than they are now.
