I'm pretty sure people are exaggerating their Rowlet love and Popplio hate for the sake of memes. Kotaku made a fucking article about how hated Popplio was, people are clearly doing it for show.
I do think Rowlet is the most popular starter of Gen 7 regardless of memes, but I'm pretty sure Smugleaf beat it out.

I'll pick Popplio for a change, I've been ignoring Water starters for far too long now. Litten's cute, but I've mostly picked Fire type starters too.

I've been waiting for a griffin pokemon for YEARS. If it goes that way, Rowlet and its evos will be my favorite thing to come out of pokemon, hands-down.
