The anime is alright up until the end of DP. Then just immediately stop. Not even XY is worth watching.

XY(Z) anime is mostly boring, but the important battles are quite well animated, so you should at least watch the rival/arena battles.

Hoenn isn't bad, Battle Frontier has some pretty good battles. DP is the peak of the anime. Don't watch anything after DP though.
