Honestly, the Vita's pretty expensive. I'd suggest going for a PSTV instead, if you have a spare TV monitor with HDMI support. It's like playing on a regular console too, except it's cheaper. If portability's important to you, though, I'd get the Vita.
On another note, the game's actually technically the 6th in the Trails series, while the Trails series is a subseries in the Legend of Heroes series as a whole. The game's designed so that you don't need to have played the previous games to know what's going on, though it'll help. The first game, Trails in the Sky and its sequel is on Steam, if you're interested.as you can see, I am trained to shill the game, given a chance

Tales is a series I still need to play; I have Symphonia and Zestiria on Steam, though I haven't had the chance to really give them a shotespecially considering Symphonia's shoddy port quality. I'll probably try in a few weeks, got more free time since the semester's over.

Apparently Zesteria sucks, but I heard Symphonia is one of the best Tales games. I haven't played them though.
I used a ps2 emulator to play Abyss, maybe you could get the dolphin emulator for Symphonia if the port is that bad?
