Like, when I'm conversing with someone the first thing I do is ask what they're up to, if anything relevant happened recently, or if their health is good. Mind you I'm a borderline shut-in so I don't go many places as it is, but when I do I act normal, and am always polite. My advice would be just save it for home, or maybe the bus.

Where I live it is very likely to get my 3DS stolen, so I only bring it with me when I go to VGC Tournaments or casual Monster Hunter reunions if I have time.
I played pokemon in public pretty much all through university after I met my GF near the beginning and she got me back into pokemon.
