The problem is that a Bug type has to be both not weak to Birb AND good enough to compete with EVERY OTHER meta Pokemon. That literally leaves ONLY Scizor. There ARE Bugs that can compete with Talonflame, but they get slaughtered by several others.

Stats would have nothing to do with it, you mean the type matchups. The proper stats, ability, and move distribution could make up for being x4 weak to fire and rock, like it does with other mons.
