Give Politoed Either a Eject Button and Invest in Defence, Special Defence and HP. Or give it a Choice Scarf and Invest in speed and Special attack.
My politoed swings both ways and is invested in HP and Sp. Atk and comes with an Eject button.
Mega Swapert Has EVs in Speed and Attack and has the moves (protect, ice punch, earthquake, and waterfall)
Talonflame needs def, sp def and attack evs and comes with Roost, Brave Bird, Tailwind aand Protect. Give a life orb to oneshot alot of pokemon.
Gen IV meta overall was the best. Nice balance between offense and defense, not too many overwhelming threats besides lmao Outrage

As for the record there were neither any official formats around the first years either, but simulators started to get traction as early as the turn of the millennium.
