Xerneas didn't seem like any existing type, and people who said he needed a new type were right.

There is no way to tell, but I find it really unlikely for GF to pull a new type two gens in a row. Specially since the remaining balancing issues could be solved by adjusting the weakness resistance chart instead of retconing dozens of Pokémon's types again.
