So for the first set when all you see are unique Pokemon, pick everything you have even the slightest inclination towards. When you see mons you've already selected, start picking mid-tier and above. Around the point where 10 or less start showing up, start narrowing down the true favorites, trying to pick less than half of the total Pokemon presented to you.
Should help you get a better list. Just make sure to really pay attention to the initial selection process or you'll miss your dudes later on.
