I like it because it fits in with Gen 1's make-everything-a-vaguely-inspired-and-simplistic-dinosaur approach, which I thought was interesting about pokemon designs. I'm all for convoluted inspirations, but it's gone full-blown gimmick by now, despite the fact that most kids couldn't give less of a shit about chinese giant salamanders' breeding practices. That being said, I do think it keeps the designs from getting spectrobes levels of ridiculous, so there's that.

Not OP, but i also hate Blaziken with aburningpassion. I'm willing to admit there's some bias there, though. As for Delphox, Emboar and the like, i don't particularly LIKE them, but at least they tried to do something. They're kinda like the kids in school who have a hard time understanding the concepts, but still actively work hard to turn in their homework even if their grades turn out lame in the end.
Typhlosion is more like the kid that stays at home, leeches off of his parents, NEETS supremely, is an overall burden to society and never tries to do anything productive.

I never pick Emboar but frankly, out of all the fire starters, he might be the most original one. He still sucks though.
Charmander becomes a fat dragon, Typhlosion is kinda cool but doesn't feel special, chickenhead and his hairwings with elephants pants, the monkey lacks something to be really good, and the magician was a great idea but the result is bad.

You do realize Blaziken is based off of shamo, right? Because it seems like nobody does. Everything in his design comes from a place of inspiration, including it's disproportionality relative to other pokemon and having arms. I also have no particular love for it, but it's not because it's bad in any way.
Honestly the Fire type starters are some of the worst.
Charizard, while cool, has been reduced to one of those pandering Pokemon.
Typhlosion is boring, even Meganium has more of a design going for it.
Combusken is better looking than Blaziken.
Monferno is better looking than Infernape.
Tepig's line only gets Arm Thrust as a Fighting move during level up.
