Yes, even with 8 islands there will still be far more water mass. Hopefully the new 3D style can keep things interesting instead of having to surf on mind numbing water routes.

I think it's gonna be more like Sevii Islands 2.0. Something tells me you won't be able to surf much between the islands except probably the Moloka'i/Lana'i/Maui trio.

Honestly the water routes ARE boring. Near the end of ORAS I just got a bit tired of so much open space. I'd be fine navigating it if the camera was more zoomed out.
There's plenty of ways to make it interesting though. But in all honesty I'd probably prefer closed-off areas accessible by boat over surfing everywhere. We've got Pearl Harbor after all
I wonder if they went for a tropical region so they could reuse ORAS assets.
