Other anon here. It's because Gen 5 was Gen 1 pandering done right.
Gen 2 was great because it tugged at nostalgia strings really well but using the same shit over and over can only go so far. The point of nostalgia is to be reminded of something you haven't experienced in a long time.
If for every gen we see the usual suspects, we just get sick and tired of it. The nostalgia factor is gone.
Gen 5 relived the experience of being completely unaware of how the entire region and dex worked. An actual fresh adventure. What pokemon do I encounter here? Are they common? What is the habitat range? How do they evolve? Is this one going to be a good member of my team? No training wheels for Gen 5. Your first playthrough IS your training.
Gen 6 just overused stuff that we have already seen countless times before.

Variable orchestration, greatest number of songs, greatest number of instruments, greatest number of genres, a feature that's based on music (Pokemon Musical), remixes of previous battle themes for PWT, low HP and final Pokemon music, no repeated songs amongst cities and bridges, and, of course, many great battle and overworld themes, like N's battle theme, Colress', Virbank City, Driftveil Bridge, and my favorite song in the series, Lacunosa Town.
Gen V didn't have music that changed by time of day, but it did have music that changed by season.
