Why was this so much better than the main story?
I have yet to even start this after all these years...Probably missing out on some important plot related stuff.

You could, insome way, care about them, beating you rival was just depressing in a bad way, and any subsequent fight is literally Icameheretolaughatyou.jpg
also team flare sucked as a concept, gym leaders have no personality aside of what you can get from their gyms, and these are only some cases, aside of 1 of elite 4 being part of team flare you know nothing about them, and their teams were between pisseasy and forgetable (blame the low amount of new pokes)
This and ORAS to an extend were test of the engine, so S&M better not fucking suck
