I don't think that's the sole reason I think many, even after the transition, are still unhappy because they realise they will never truly be the other gender, as their dna still dictates that they are of either side. It's been agreed by countless professional doctors and psychiatrists that transitioning is the best solution for trans people. If there was a better way then it still hasn't been discovered yet. Maybe in the future there will be a magical pill that makes trans feelings go away and then everyone will be happy. But that isn't an option so in the meantime everyone else will just have to grow up and deal with it.
The suicide rate has also been proven to be far lower for trans people who have gotten medical help and have transitioned. I was not pressured into transitioning, I chose it for myself. I received a professional diagnosis from three different psychiatrists. I am 26 years old, it's been a good 8 years since I started testosterone and had surgery and I am happily living as a man, with a girlfriend, a decent job, a nice place to live, good friends and everything I could possibly want from life.

There was some facility that shut down recently where they helped kids who had issues concerning their genders and the doctors there helped quite a lot with first addressing the mental aspect (since other mental illnesses are quite common in trans people). They found that many of their patients ended up not transitioning and went on to have quite happy lives. For the worst dysphoria cases, they were able to discover the physical factors driving it and pass them through the system to transition.
Sadly it was shut down because ideologues want to see more kids transition to suit their goals rather than help them be happy no matter the treatment.
