Let's have a realistic Pokemon thread.:^)
That shit doesn't look good tho.
>>26360943
What do you mean?
>>26360943
The trick isn't to go "realistic", but to go OVER THE TOP
>>26360810
not even realistic
a create that size would need wings probably almost three times as large at drawn to be even close to getting airborne
>>26360810
That Yveltal is some monhun shit.two months
>>26360958
Raichu is cool, but the zapdos looks like a midget with that big head and stubby everything else. It looks like he tried to scale up a tiny kingfisher. And I'm not even going to mention the rest.
>>26361040
But anon, floating crabs are far more realistic than sapient magnets!
I need about tree fiddy
>>26360943
This. "Realistic" Pokemon are a waste of time since Pokemon is in no way realistic.
>>26360958
What the fuck did they do to Magnemite and Magneton.
>>26361054

>>26361054
Fuck me, I was staring at that bug thing for way too long trying to figure out what it was.
Why the fuck did they make Honedge some kind of insect?
It's a bloody sword. If you want to make it a living animal, have it be like a stick insect or somehting. The wings are just weird.

Reptiles that happen to resemble sharks or sharks that adapted to land. What's your headcanon?
>>26361935
>>26360982
It's alright
>>26362919
I say that their ancestors were reptilians that had similar features to sharks, and that they adapted over millions of years into the draconic bipedal landshark lookalikes of today. In the real world, some ancient reptilians actually shared some features with sharks, mainly the tails.
To all those who think it's weird having a Pokemon based on an inanimate object becoming an animal in one of these drawings:
Naturalism is a subset of realism where fictional things based on inanimate objects are portrayed as animals.
DEAL WITH IT!
>>26363086
Adding to definition: This counts for things based on shit like dragons too and ambulatory cacti too.
>>26363021
Since Garchomp and Hippowdon were both introduced at the same time and both are Ground types despite their basis being on water animals I always had a theory.
Basically, their original habitat was filled with water but after a long time the water dried up creating a desert-like environment. because of that, the pokemon there quickly adapted to live on land and obtained the Ground typing
>>26360810
That's actually probably the most reasonable Arvalis has been regarding changes, but that's probably just luck due to not having any swords or lamps in the image to trigger him.
Arvalis as a whole is cancer though, stop posting him.
>>26363166
That's actually a pretty good theory, it makes sense in a practical and scientific way. I like it.

No, you're not going to ever come up with a suitable defense for turning a lamp into a jellyfish, or a tree into an octopus.

>>26363432
Lamps and trees don't move on their own.
>>26363458
That's why they're possessed.
>>26363458
You can still have supernatural things look realistic dude.
I want tocuddlethis Typhlosion
>>26362003
Nice try.
>>26363322
The artist didn't do a Kyogre version, unfortunately. This Lugia is the only other Pokemon pic he drew.
>>26363432
They're reimaginings. I'm sorry you get upset every time someone draws your favorite fictional animals a bit differently. If this was done for like a tv show or something, but it's just some dude's fanart.
d
>>26363536
The reason the dude's art irks me is because literally every realistic Pokémon gets ruined by people flooding the threads with his shitty "realistic" art. Arvalisfags can't go one realistic Pokémon thread without it.
>>26363620
His art is actually pretty decent. I can imagine you getting upset about them being posted too often, but most of the complaints are just that they are not how you imagine the pokemon to be.
>>26363536
I get bored because these threads tend to be the same shit all the time.
>>26363667
His drawing skills are high quality but his art is all shit. If you want to "reimagine" a lamp as a jellyfish, fine, but don't call it "realistic" and don't post it in realistic Pokémon threads.
>>26363693
I have no problem with inanimate object based pokemon, but a flying jellyfish sure as hell is more realistic than a living lamp.
I honestly think it's neat how he finds ways how some of the more outlandish pokemon could exist in real life.
>>26363749
His excuse for a Chandelure COULDN'T exist in real life.
Jellyfish can't fly, they quickly die out of water because that's what they're mostly made of.
And they still create spectral looking fire. How the fuck do you explain that? If ghosts don't exist, how is this ghostly fire being creatd in the first place?
>>26363173
>>26363432
>>26363620
I can tell you that it's not just Arvalis that uses real animals in place of inanimate objects and such. There's a whole sub-community on Deviant Art for it.
Personally, I like to see how creative people can get to justify some of the stranger designs for pokemon with actual animals.
>>26363894
It is still more realistic than a living lamp.
>>26363933
>like to see how creative people can get to justify some of the stranger designs for pokemon with actual animals
This. For example using litwick as a polyp stage for the jellyfish lampet is genius.
>>26363749
I gotta agree with >>26363894 here. His choices for changes are quite inconsistent. It's one thing to reimagine Hypno as a proboscis monkey or something, but Chingling into a frog? It doesn't make a lick of sense.
>>26363579
>>26363549
>>26363972
Why are they so big
>>26363894
>How the fuck do you explain that?
Well if you actually bothered to check the actual deviantart page he actually has descriptions for the pokemon.
For instance, Lampent float because they have gas sacks and they also have bioluminescence which jellyfish actually have.
>Jellyfish can't fly, they quickly die out of water because that's what they're mostly made of.
It's called adapting to a new environment. It's not like they just jumped out of the ocean and started floating around. It's supposed to have happened over a long period of time.
Coming up with scientific reasons of how pokemon might be able to work in real life is also a part of the sub-community I talked about here >>26363933
>>26363966
It's his reimaginings. It's not like he is trying to create the new canon Pokemon.
Making chingling into a frog was an interesting choice, but there isn't necessarily anything wrong with it.
>>26364016
>Lampent float because they have gas sacks

>>26360958

>>26364185
So you're saying it's fine and harmless, as long as it's not being stated as the one true canon.
>>26364101
Well it's not supposed a fucking jellyfish that's alive today. It's supposed to be one that's evolved to have these traits.
>>26364817
May as well make it a fucking alien at that point.
>>26361800
Milotic as an Oarfish, never thought of it like that.
>>26360958
>>26360974
>>26361054
that are some lovecraftian pokis
>>26363480
But a land-dwelling octopus with a tree as armor or a flying jellyfish is suddenly realistic. Sure.
>>26364834
The whole point is try and find a way that these pokemon could fit in the real world. If you had to pick an animal and not have something like literal spirits possessing things then I'd say a jellyfish is a pretty good match.
And what's so bad about a gas sack? Fish have swim bladders that help them float, who's to say a billion years down the line it won't evolve into something that could hold gasses that would let it float? And why can't another animal evolve something similar. Especially if its a jellyfish that went down that evolutionary path a long time ago, not just current jellyfish spontaneously doing it.
Of course it's not supposed to be literally scientifically accurate, but it's supposed to be more so than just a possessed lamp that evolved from a candle.
>>26365041
If you're going to make up alien-like animals you might as well say "well in the future lamps come alive and start attacking humans!" They're equally believable if we're talking about the amount of time it takes for a brand new species unlike anything the world currently has to evolve.
>>26361222
i'm sorry we cant have yet another thread about lewd May pictures since we're so cool amirite boardculture xP
>>26361419
artistic license
>>26363966
Chingling was made into a frog because a frog matches its shape the best while still being an actual living thing.
I don't see what's inconsistent about it. He makes inanimate object Pokemon into animals with a similar shape and he chooses similar animals for Pokemon already based on animals. I don't get why people complain about NOT MUH REALISTIC LIVING LAMP in every one of these fucking threads.
>>26365066
Yes, because lamps coming alive is equally realistic as sacks of gas. You completely proved your point.
>>26365103
>I don't get why people complain about NOT MUH REALISTIC LIVING LAMP in every one of these fucking threads
Because they are autistic and can't handle change, even is someone's fanart.
>>26365134
It's billions of years, who is to say we don't get species made out of metal, glass and fire who look exactly like lamps? It's realistic.
>>26362599
awwww
>>26365169
Because Arvalis's thing is to use inspiration from real life animals.
>>26365199
And in billions of years lamps and chairs can be animals.
>>26365169
Because yet again, the point is to have some real world basis. A species made of metal, glass, and fire? Sure, whatever. But then what species did it evolve from? It would have to have evolved from some already existing animal and therefore nothing really changes except maybe looking a bit more like the original design.
>>26365222
>some real world basis
What real world animal creates fire from their insides?
>>26362065
Can somebody get me a fug version?
>>26362919
Sharks.
The reason they fly so fast is because they need to to get enough air passing over their gills.
>>26360865
>"realistic"
>looks like nightmare fuel
If they were realistic, they would at least look semi-cute. Real life cats, owls, and seals aren't that awful looking.
>>26365239
The actual animal is supposed to be the real world basis. The traits are what's different. In the description given, Lampent isn't even stated to have fire. It's up to the creator to come up with whatever explanation of how or even if they can shoot fire or electricity.
