Honestly, if I were 15 years younger, I wouldn't be giving two fucks about Mega/Synchro/Ultra/whatever evolution mechanics. Kids like overpowered, super-hyped nonsensical action -- that's why Dragonball Z and other franchises got to be so popular. Pokemon was exactly the same back in Gens 1 (and 4, to an extent). In Gen 1, every kid I played with had a Mewtwo, because we knew that he was the strongest and the coolest, and if you didn't have one, you were almost guaranteed to lose. My younger days were filled with Mewthree garbage and 4th-tier evolutions and Rainbow Stones and all kinds of "turn it up to 11" wackiness, and I'm willing to bet most other kids' were, too. Sometimes a franchise has to adapt to win back its core market (you know, the one that Youkai Watch stole in Japan?).
That segment, while not amazingly animated, is good enough to at least get me open to the idea.

I think the animation was great when it came to Ash-greninja but everything else fell flat. It was pretty clear where the budget went.
