One of my runs (maybe even my first? I don't know, it was a long time ago) of Yellow, I caught a "rare and elusive" Abra, and used it all the way up until the Elite Four, where it was a level 86 Kadabra. Eventually my friend came to me and said he was having issues beating the elite four, so I decided to lend him my Kadabra

That Alakazam went on to destroy the elite four over and over until it reached level 100.
Eventually it died after being transferred to Gold, and I brought it on the ship after the first boarding. I had no idea I had to sleep to get the ship to arrive because I was probably 7, so I eventually had to wipe the data with him in it.
I got bored of White, so I bred an Adamant Sub-DD Dragon Claw Axew, traded the egg to Black, and swept the game with her. Clay gave me trouble until I evolved her to a Fraxure.
Then my dog ate the cartridge. Oh well.

Arbok. I remember it was one of my first runs of Silver (I'm 20, was about 7 or 8 at the time) and I thought snakes were awesome. That was the whole basis of my decision right there. So I only used my Arbok, and I went on to beat the game with him. I miss the days when I could use pokemon i liked without getting caught up in stats and EVs and whatnot.

This, plus a Magneton. Mostly I used it for link cable fights. T-Wave+Supersonic, then switch and Fire Spin with that max level speed.
I did the "overlevel your starter and use nothing else, then add some legendaries to your team in the endgame" thing up until the end of Gen 3 because I was a super unimaginative child I guess.

Gold: Typhlosion
Silver: Feraligatr
Ruby: Swampert
Then when I got Sapphire I started with Torchic and started to do the same thing but somehow I ended up powerleveling a Wingull instead (I think it had something to do with Torchic dying to the first gym and Wingull getting all the experience).
I should really use Pelipper in a run sometime, I actually completely forgot about this until this thread reminded me.
Thankfully something clicked in Diamond and I stopped being a retard and started training a full team of Pokemon.

My first was charizard in red but someone already claimed him so I'll go with Feraligatr next. Crocodilians are my favorite animals so you're damn right I overused him to level 100. Gave no fucks. The next highest level Pokemon I had were in their 30/40s.

Gen 4 was my firsthandheldgame because my parents were poor and they were heavily against me getting a portable game system until the DS Lite came out. I had XD: Gale of Darkness before then, but a lot of people don't consider it main series. Before then, all I had was the N64 Pokemon games and Pokemon Crater.
