So in fact, as of Gen 5, Emboar is the most unique fire starter in terms of stat spread and playstyle

It was my Starter in W2 (after Samurott in W which was cool but definitely lacking a secondary type) and I was really happy with it.

Emboar is my favorite fire starter of all time. But I do understand why his design usually goes disliked.
For one he was the third time in a row we got fire/fighting as a starter, and most people on vp dislike chubby designs. I prefer Emboar mainly because Blaziken looks a bit too much like someone in a chicken suit and Infernape is a bit too small and scrawny looking for my tastes. I dont hate them, but Emboar looks like a bulky fucker who could rip shit up.
It's probably the fact that his body shape is sort of akward, with no neck to be seen and appearing very egg shaped.
Finally its probably because a lot of people wanted it to stay on all fours instead of stand up like most fire starters to. I'de be lying if when we were still in the dark about the evolutions that I didnt want a charging fire boar, but im still content with what we got.
You can still like a pokemon even if you understand they have a few weird design elements or missed potential. Most important thing to realize is never let vp change your tastes, because vp will make a hate thread on literally every pokemon at some point.
