I don't think it'll be as obvious as you'd like OP, but I do think this choice was intentional to cash in on YW's success in Japan.
Either Ghost or Dark typing, and some sort of spooky lore, that should be enough. The brimstone thing doesn't necessarily equate to poison, especially not by Game Freak logic.
How would the type for the other two work then?
