Pokemon's been entirely linear since gen 3, looking at the parts of the map we have seen Alola looks less linear than previous regions (branching paths, more open routes)
It might be like the Sevii Islands where there are multiple smaller maps combined together, and all we've seen so far is just one of these maps for Alola. Hopefully Alola is still bigger than the Sevii Islands.
