The only good rival in the show. Unfortunately, even though he is everything an antagonist should be, the protagonist gained nothing from it. There was no character development had at all. And yes, I will say there is no way he should've lost at all. Such a flipping waste. I wish I could punch the person that makes them do this and tell them to their face they don't know how to write.

Please. Although that would partially get into the semantics of what constitutes as a rival in this series. Gary was still worse in that he only really battled Ash once. That's for characters that were SUPPOSED to oppose him throughout the story arc. For everything else, Lucario boy is the absolute tops in suckage.
