All you need to do is compare this part of Alola to the Oahu portion of Hawaii and you can see they're almost exactly the same. The mountain there at the rocky portion of the map here is the exact same as Diamond Head mountain, there are tiki statues scattered around the place in the trailer, and Kukui refers to you as "cousin" which is a common Hawaiian term of endearment. If you actually think it isn't based around Hawaii then you are truly an idiot.
