They would never do that after the butthurt following 3rd gen. I was pretty pleased by them just keeping all of the older pokemon for after the E4 in BW1, and in BW2 they made the smart call of buffing the dex since we had already gotten used to the new pokemon at that point.

I feel like Pokemon would benefit from a reboot at some point. I think they're trying to fix things up as of XY where they've started going back and fixing up more moves and stats than usual but I think it'd just be easier to start from scratch. For the recod I mean mostly stats and ability wise and kind of moveset wise as well though movesets are more fluid than the former 2, not literally design-wise. It's kind of like the difference between, say, Greninja and Blastoise, or Talonflame and Pidgeot

Besides that Pokemon by design has virtually endless end game content every gen. Post game is where you breed for teams, catch Pokemon, beat records, and have multiplayer battles. Thats probably one of hte aspects that makes the series so long lived.
