Sun and Moon will NOT be the only Gen 7 games, for one we will be getting new spin offs so already your "theory" is debunked. And two if they release Sun and Moon this year but skip straight to Gen 8 next year then this would make the shortest generation in the history of the series, and they wouldn't do that. So it's either we get Gen 4 remakes, sequels, or a third version this Gen, there isn't much else they can do unless they introduce another type of main series game like a prequel for instance.
