I've been vehemently against people saying >"hurr durr Pokemon is starting to look like Digimon" for almost 4 fucking gens straight.
But, honestly, /vp/... I can't help but think that all of the 'mons revealed so far just don't resemble classic Sugimori Pokemon. Especially Litten and Popplio. They look so out of place. And I'm one of those people who claims the Gen VI starters were the best set since Gen I, or at least III. This set though, I don't know. It's not that they're uninspired or dull, they just look Fakemon-tier to me. This time around I might have to agree with the hurr durr Digimon crowd.

Litten looks more traditional than say Fennekin, just look at its proportions and compare to older starters.
I hate when people say they look like digimon because they can't give any examples. Its just a digimon.

The ONLY pokemon that can honestly be called a digimon is 100% Zygarde.
Anything else is dishonest and your decades of calling pokemon designs digimon has made the comparison meaningless.

The only one looking off to me is Litten because of the unusual color scheme for a fire starter and the yellow eyes that make him look more of a generic anime feline than a Pokémon. The others look weird only because the artstyle is slightly different from Sugimori's (Ohmura made the art for them this time around).

People have said this literally every time, and I'm not talking about the "they look like Digimon" point. People always think the new designs look "out of place", but ultimately it's just unfamiliarity as eventually they get accepted as Pokemon anyway.

Only the colors are kinda odd, unusual if you will, compared to previous starters.
But that's good. Everything else is fine, they work well as a trio, you just got to get used to them. Once you'll see them in the game, merchandising, anime etc. they'll start to blend in with the rest of the mons, it happens every time.
The digimon argument is retarded and was only slightly acceptable with Dialga and Palkia. They still look weird and "notreallyaPokémon" to me

The Digimon art style is so distinctly different from any existing Pokémon that it's just a stupid criticism. It can be deflected every time by just putting “[whatever] Digimon“ into Google. So, for Popplio, just search for “seal Digimon“, and you'll see that they don't look remotely similar in style.
Even saying newer Pokémon don't fit in with older ones is often a stretch. Put Popplio next to Mr.Mime and it will look fine. Put it next to Mewtwo and it will look strange.
In any case, people have been saying that new Pokémon look like Digimon since at least Ruby and Sapphire, if not Gold and Silver. It means nothing except that they don't like the designs, or are not used to them yet. It's just a childish put down from back in the day when Pokémon was regarded as the good original and Digimon was the cheap ripoff. It's playground level stuff.
